Recently, we started talking about how to take the steps to ensure that our lives count for something. We need to take action to bring our dreams and desires to reality and make a difference in the world around us.
Now, let’s turn our attention to how to start. Many people grapple with the question of: Where and how do I even start? That’s what we’ll discuss today.
Everything starts with light. You begin by turning the light on yourself as an individual. You have to pay attention to yourself and you have to understand the kind of person that you are. You have to understand your deep desires, your personality, your talents, abilities and skills. Everything must start with personal knowledge. Your relationships, goals, career and life must begin with what you know about yourself. Any attempt to jump into a project or set a goal of any kind without really knowing yourself will end in futility.
To go anywhere, you must start by assessing your current position. What kind of a person are you? What are your deepest dreams and desires? When you imagine yourself making a difference in the world, what do you see yourself doing? The world is in need of everybody’s potentials.
There are too many things are happening in the world and most of these things are problems in need of solutions. You were created to be a solution-bearer for this world and this generation. So, which of the world’s problems do you want to take on, even if it’s at a local or national level? Which problem do you want to solve? There are also many good situations on the world that could be improved. Which situation do you want to improve?
A major part of knowing yourself is to understand the values you hold dear. You can never successfully go too far from your personal values. They define you and determine what you do and the kind of platform or venture that you will start or get involved with.
I want to recommend a tool that I created just for this purpose. It’s a comprehensive tool that will engage you and help you to understand yourself in a powerful way. It’s called The PAID Workbook (Personal Assessment Inventory and Discovery Workbook). The workbook has different sections that will help you to know and understand your personal skills, abilities, values, interests, desires and fears. It will also help you to understand how people perceive you. It’s a personal tool that’s easy to use and you can download it for free upon subscription to The Lifeaholic website (www.thelifeaholic.com).
Subscription to the website is also free. With this tool, you will be able to paint a honest picture about yourself and that would be an ideal place for you to start.
