Whatever this means for you, you must take charge of your career and play your part in attracting the right better opportunities. Here are six steps to help you do just that:
One. Decide what a ‘better career opportunity’ would look like for you. This is foundational. If you do not know what you want, needless to say, you may not have a shot at attracting it. If you know what you want, it would help you to determine its requirements and demands, and it may also help you to identify just who may be of help in your circle of people.
Two. Build confidence by taking stock of your currents skills and competencies. Knowing just what you can do will help you to build confidence- a trait that makes you attractive.
Three. Increase your capacity by learning new skills and taking on bigger and newer tasks. You’ll never grow if you keep doing the same thing over and over for years. Why should a better opportunity come to a ‘regular’ you? If you’re not willing to pay the price to change, your career will not change either.
Four. Step out of your comfort zone. Talk to people. Tell them what you’re doing and what you desire. Tell old contacts and new ones. People are not mind readers. They may not know how they can help you until they know what you want.
Five. Stay optimistic. You need to believe that it’s possible for things to change for you for the better. If you want something, you must follow that desire with the positive belief that it can happen for you.
Six. Seek support. You may consider working with a dedicated career coach to help you create and commit to the steps necessary to attract and retain better opportunities.
Finally, remember that taking these steps will not only help you to attract better career opportunities, they will also help you to become a better person and worker in the meantime.
